I was recently invited as a guest on Sonia Watson’s programme on BBC Radio Essex.
I talked about the challenges children face with having smartphones in school. This is a topic I feel deeply passionate about.
Through my work with secondary-age children, I have seen first-hand how smartphones can negatively impact their wellbeing, adding further pressure to an already demanding school environment.
During the interview with Sonia, I also discussed the importance of giving children space to develop essential communication skills and practise meaningful, face-to-face human interaction without smartphones acting as a barrier.
Creating opportunities for genuine connection is vital in supporting a young person’s confidence, resilience and social development.
The interview aired on BBC Radio Essex on Tuesday 3 February 2026.
